Illinois Business Developments

Illinois as the biggest marketplace in the Midwest and the home of more than 22,000 corporate headquarters, a thriving startup scene and paypal press release (Read More Here) over 1.2 million small businesses, provides all the resources global businesses require to succeed in business today. From world-class infrastructure that connects companies to suppliers and customers to a skilled and knowledgeable workforces in various industries as well as a modern manufacturing base - Illinois has a leading position in many fields such as advanced and clean technology, agriculture, energy, life sciences, transportation logistics.

Illinois has experienced a tremendous increase in expansion of foreign investments in recent years. Countries like Britain, Japan, Germany and China were among the countries that most invested in Illinois; by 2023 this total was more than USD $13.2 billion across manufacturing, agribusiness and other sectors in Illinois all by itself.

Since 2014, over $1 billion in incentives have been awarded under Illinois Reimagining Energy and Vehicles program to companies providing electric vehicles and clean energy production. The program was announced last month. DCEO also rewarded PsiQuantum Manufacturing with an incentive package totaling over $200 million to build a modern facility located in East Alton.

Governor JB Pritzker accompanied by representatives of The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Network and local officials today in Chicago to launch CZ Biohub Chicago - a groundbreaking research hub that is at the forefront of cutting-edge scientific research. This project will bring together University of Chicago, Urbana-Champaign State University (UIUC) and Northwestern University researchers to study human tissue development as and develop revolutionary therapies.

Governor JB Pritzker and Flender Corporation recently announced they are expanding their existing production facility located in Elgin which will create 50 full-time positions while keeping the 140 full-time positions they currently have.

The Illinois Small Business Development Center at Southern Illinois University is funded in part through a cooperative agreement among U.S. Small Business Administration, Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and Southern Illinois University. The Center provides entrepreneurs in the area with support for beginning or expanding their business through services such as free business planning workshops individual counseling sessions with expert Business Advisors as well as access to financing options.

State officials in Indiana are informing employers to provide higher salaries and benefits as a way of keeping child care workers in the country and facing a lack of work. This comes following the closure of a child care center in Bronzeville that struggled to keep its employees.

Illinois Department of Labor also has launched an online tool to help small businesses understand lawful employment practices. Employers can search using keywords or browse categories on this site; as well as connect to state agencies and sources.

Illinois Business Development Authority (IBDA) has taken steps to make people aware of Illinois tax incentives that can be used for expanding businesses by hosting a webinar this week on the subject. The webinar was recorded and will later become archived and posted on their site.
